What is Anime?

Anime is the Japanese term for "animation", which refers to Japanese cartoons. It isn't though the same concept as American cartoons. American cartoons are generally for the younger generation and rarely high quality, which is quick to argue. But comparing Anime to that of let's say Disney, you get the point.

Anime covers many different subject areas and there's anime for every audience, although some may not appeal to it. Despite those quick-to-judge- anime people, it's still rather quite popular. This art form can run from the simplicity of a children's story like Hello Kitty to a soap-opera type to a martial arts/robot action anime. It takes all those different qualities you would find in a live-action show/movie into animated japanese art.

Since anime can take all those elements to make a live-action show, anime is the preferred method of production for media in Japan. Animation is very economical and cuts back on actor's salary and special effects. But this doesn't mean that anime is lower quality. It can be compared equally to live-action media in Japan and around the world.

Characters are made extremely life-like, although they are not as proportioned as us. But you see the detailed lines, shadows, color, the eyes, face which capture the true essence of anime characters and how they are set apart from other animation. The eyes are generally made big because they're very expressive and give the character's distiction. If you ever seen a dramatic anime during a sad seen, the eyes are captivating and give the certain emotion.
